COVID-19: Can I get refunded for seat reservations?

For DiscoverEU travellers departing in April-May-June, DiscoverEU is exchanging the Interrail Pass, free of charge.

Did you book a travel ticket with departure date in April, and missed our email? Contact the DiscoverEU Travel Team at hello@start-discover.eu. If you booked a travel ticket in May or June, the DiscoverEU Travel Team will contact you soon.

If you received a DiscoverEU  Interrail Pass and made seat reservations, the below information will help you find out whether and how you can claim for reimbursement. 

  • Be patient while the Eurail customer services gets back to you.
  • If you travel after May, we kindly ask you to not yet reach out to the customer service team. 

Italian E-Tickets

Did you purchase an e-ticket from Italian railways? You can claim compensation directly with Trenitalia via their web form. More information is also available on the dedicated Trenitalia website

E-Ticket Reservations booked with Eurail

For any other e-ticket reservations booked directly with Eurail, the procedure is as follows.

  1. Send an e-mail to the Eurail customer service discovereu@interrail.eu
  2. In this e-mail, you send the train information (train number, which date, what time), and also what you want to cancel/receive a potential refund for. The more information provided, the faster Eurail will be able to help you.
  3. After sending this email, you will be re-directed to the Eurail reservations specialists who will have to manually check what is possible for what train.

It's important to keep in mind that only after you sent all the information, Eurail can inform whether a refund/exchange is possible. 

Paper Tickets booked with Eurail

France & Spain

  1. Paper train ticket reservations which of cancelled train, will be cancelled up front. 
  2. The full refund of the reservation fee is possible, you can cancel these in your reservation overview (via your Eurail account). 
  3. If you have any problems with the above, email the Eurail customer service and specify as much information as possible. 

Other countries

If you have a paper ticket for another route/location, the procedure is as follows. 

  1. Send an e-mail to the Eurail customer service discovereu@interrail.eu
  2. In this email, include a picture of your reservation. 
  3. Eurail will have to request the ask the provider what is/isn’t possible.

It's important to keep in mind that only after you sent all the information, Eurail can inform whether a refund/exchange is possible. 

Eurostar

Separate policies are in place for the Eurostar. This information was updated last on 17 March, live updates can be found on the Eurostar website

  • For all journeys between 1 - 7 April 2020, customers who choose not to travel, can get an eVoucher equivalent to the full value of their current Eurostar train booking. This eVoucher may be used to make a new booking on Eurostar’s website from Monday 16 March to Tuesday 30 June 2020, for travel up to Saturday 12 December 2020 (subject to availability).
  • No fees are applied, BUT if the value of the new booking is greater than the value of the eVoucher, you will need to pay the difference.
  • To claim an eVoucher, you should complete this webform: https://help.eurostar.com/covid19/#/

Reservations booked with railway companies

If you have made reservations directly with the railway companies, you should contact the railway company directly.
